Naboo & Poppy Treat Time

Here are Naboo and Poppy enjoying their latest treat. Rather than being bad for them, it is from the 'natural' range of treats.

They are also enjoying their new grassy tunnel, which they delight in chewing at a very early time in the morning, and we use it as a form of alarm clock! 

They had a nice day out on the patio in the garden today, and really enjoyed their time out in the fresh air and sunshine.

Monica & Gabrielle - The Cheeky Girls

Here are our two Degus, Monica and Gabrielle, after just having a spin on their wheel. This is where they spend most of their day, as in the wild Degus run up to 3km a day........yes, a day!!! I don't run that far in a year.....ha ha!!!

We took the opportunity of the hot weather to give their house ( a parrot cage) a good clean out, as cute as they are, they can be a bit messy at times. They do seem to appreciate it, at first, but I'm sure it will be back to being a mess in no time.

It also gave me a chance to have them out for a bit of playtime, as they are very friendly and like to go for a ride on my shoulders.

Their cage is by the front door, so they are always a talking point when people come and go to the house, and the face of the delivery men when they call is a picture to behold....LOL!!!

Marv & Lucky

Marv and Lucky arrived this morning for their latest stay with us. They are here until early September, as their owners have gone home to Finland for the Summer to visit friends and family. 

They have been a bit nervous today, but I'm sure, like last time, they will soon settle in. They are very friendly and I think after a few days will soon be comfortable with the new surroundings.

Like Emily and Billy, they too have spent the day out in the run, enjoying the fresh air. Luckily the new gazebo we erected this week shelters them from the sun in the hottest part of the day.

Lily the tortoise

Lily the tortoise arrived this morning and has spent most of the day in an outside run. She manages to cover quite a bit of ground, contrary to popular belief, and was one of the few animals today to really enjoy the sun.

She does of course have a tray of water in her run at all times, so she can go for a dip if the weather gets too hot. 

Her owners warned us that she may be off her food for a day or so, due to the strange surroundings, but we are glad to report that she has been tucking into her food with no problems.

We have transferred her to an indoor cage in our big shed for the night which she has been busy exploring, although she did come with a lot of things from home, so it should all be fairly familiar to her.

Emily & Billy

  Here are Emily and Billy, who came to stay with us from last evening. They are very gentle rabbits and we have looked after them on quite a few occasions now.

Billy is looking a lot trimmer since his last stay, and has lost a bit of weight.

They have spent the day lounging in their run, as the weather has been very hot, although as you can see, Billy did come in for his biscuits!!

Bonjour Chataigne!

Here is Chataigne, who is here for her holiday. She is a lovely friendly guinea pig and can be very vocal, especially where food is concerned.

She spent some time out in a run on the grass yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed it, but Jodie, our rabbit who was in the run next door, could not make out what she was......maybe it was the language barrier?

Simba - New Boy in the Camp

We have been pondering for quite some time whether to get a friend for our rabbit Dusty and decided to go ahead and get her a little or should I say big friend.  Her previous partner was ginger and she loved him to bits, you may have seen pictures of him, Jasper.  Sadly, he died last October and since then we have already tried to bond Dusty with no success.  We thought the easiest way forward would be a baby, as baby to adult is usually the most straightforward and quickest way to bond bunnies.  So Simba is here, who already weighs in at 2.25 kg and is destined to be the size of Valentino.  Simba is a French lop and a long lost cousin of Valentino. He is just 12 weeks old and yesterday went  in to be neutered, so not a good week for the little lad.  So far he has been very good and  trying to make some headway with his litter tray and making friends with Dusty.  However, he has already pushed his luck with her and got clouted on the nose.  Once a few weeks have gone by with them spending time side by side, I will then start doing some more serious work with them to bond them up. 

We have assured Valentino that with the arrival of Simba, his position in the household will not change and that Dusty and Simba will live in our garage. This of course brought a "cheshire cat" grin to his cheeky face.
