Anton and Amanda

Anton and Amanda guinea pigs who live indoors are two lovely piggies and both pretty good for their age and quite noisy first thing in the morning.  We are not sure if its food or a battle to see who can get into the igloo first.  We are reporting on Anton who recently had one of his eyes scanned as it was bulging quite considerably.  Our vet has found a small growth behind his eye and this means that the eye is not closing properly and unable to keep moist by producing enough normal tears.  We are putting drops in three times each day to keep his eye comfortable.  Quite a few small furries, when they get older, can suffer from dry eye syndrome the same as people.  Anton is going to have an operation on Tuesday to have the growth and his eye removed, which all sounds very serious but as he is currently in good health, this is the best time to address the problem.  The growth will only be getting bigger and then at some point in the future he may not be healthy enough to cope with this type of operation.  We will keep you posted on Anton and his operation.  Meanwhile Amanda continues to boss him around, and they remind me a little bit of "George and Mildred".
